Enthusiasm building for pharmacologic testing

Interest and enthusiasm is growing for genetic tests to determine prescription drug efficacy. With nearly 70 percent of U.S. residents taking at least one medication a day (and almost 50 percent taking more then two medications), eliminating ineffective prescriptions is an increasingly critical need. Doctors are beginning to support the tests, and researchers are identifying more drugs that can be tested through genetic traits.

Currently, Harmonyx Diagnostics offers tests for four types of drugs: antiplatelets, adhd drugs, statins and pain medications. But research continues in the effort to identify more drugs whose efficacy can be determined via genetic testing.
