Coal is an extremely important fuel and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Some 23 percent of primary energy needs are met by coal and 39 percent of electricity is generated from coal. In addition, about 70 percent of world steel production depends on coal feedstock. Coal is the world’s most abundant and widely distributed fossil fuel source. The International Energy Agency (IEA) expects a 43 percent increase in its use from 2000 to 2020. All these figures point to the increasing need for technology that harnesses the energy from coal in clean and sustainable ways. Carbon Fuels is meeting that challenge head on.
